Dr. Soni passed B.Sc. examination with first division and first position and was awarded national merit scholarship for further studies for securing highest marks in the university. He did his graduation (MBBS) And post -graduation ( M.S. Orthopaedics and Trauma ) from Gandhi Medical College Bhopal.
He completed his basic Orthopaedic training at Bhopal and did his further speciality training in Orthopaedic and trauma at AIIMS New Delhi and Irwin ( LNJPN Hospital ) New Delhi for three years.
He worked as a senior resident for three years at AIIMS and Irwin Hospitals ( Lok Nayak Hospital ) New Delhi and completed his specialty traing in Orthopaedics and Trauma there.
He went to U.K. ( England) did his Studies at Royal college of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Glasgow and obtained : LRCP Edinburgh, LRCS Edinburgh and LRCP&S Glasgow.
He then did his M.Ch. Ortho and Trauma from University of Liverpool in First.
Dr Soni worked in various traing posts and undertook quite a rigorous structured supervised training in Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery. He progressed through the ranks and became consultant Orthopedic Surgeon relatively early in his carrier.
He has also worked as a Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery in University of Leicester teaching hospitals. ( Glenfield Hospital ) UK. This position is considered equivalent to associate Professor post in India.
Dr Ram Soni has been doing independent Orthopedic practice in UK as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since 1987. He was one of the few Orthopaedic Surgeond in UK to have been doing Ankle Replacement Surgery.
Regarding trauma and Fracture Surgery ; He has worked in one of the busiest Trauma Centre at Royal London and St Batholomews Hospital in London . It has Europe’s the largest Accident and Emergency Department and one of the UK’s biggest level one trauma centre. It is home to UK’s only helicopter emergency medical services ( HEMS) . This Hospital has the highest survival rate following poly trauma in Europe. Dr Soni was a ATLS instructor as well for Royal college of Surgeons of England .
He returned to India in early 2014 and is working in various Hospitals in Bhopal. MP.
He also had a short stint at Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi in 1997 and at Wockhardt Hospital Nagpur in 2008 as a Senior Consultant orthopaedic and joint replacement Surgeon.
Presently he is working at JK Hospital, Red Cross and National Hospital Bhopal. And has done Over 80 joint replacement Surgery during this time in Bhopal. He is considered one of the best Joint replacement Surgeon in India.
He is also apparently the most experienced hip replacement Surgeon in India. He is perhaps the only surgeon in India who does Direct Anterior Approach to hip for THR without specialized Orthopedic Table.
This is considered the least invasive approach for THR by most Orthopedic Surgeons of the world.
During his stint at Wockhardt Hospital Nagpur as a Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon , he treated a patient who is in Guiness book of World records and in Limca book of World records with Chronic Pseudoarthrosis of Mid shaft of right femur and Left tibia . The documentary was shown in television in Channel 4 in UK as “two foot tall teen” on 11.6.09 and in National Geographical channel, Discovery channel and ABC ( American Broad casting corporation) channel in USA and other channels all over the world on different dates.
